Greetings Comrades and Sisters,

 Happy New Year,

Here we are off to a New Year with a lot of new Comrades, Sisters and friends. It has been a tough few months but in true VFW fashion we all came together and made it work. We are no longer two posts but one 2550. We proved that Saturday (Jan10th) when the National LAVFW President, Dixe Heild, was at our post. We all made her visit to our post an outstanding event. The Ladies Auxiliary did a fantastic job of putting it altogether. There were a lot of  other members who worked very hard to clean up the post and others who spent hours getting the food, dinnerware, and countless other things that were needed to put this all together. There are just to many to name at this time but I promise they will be recognized. A very special thank you to Jimmy Dean (Heritage Florist) who donated  centerpieces and bud vases for the tables. Jimmy you and your staff  did a great job and we can’t thank you enough, and to Jan Calve who at the 11th hour made all new curtains for the post.

A lot has happened in the last few months, the consolidation of our two posts (1658 & 2550) is now complete and we are doing great. We have a brand new canteen and game room which is a huge success and there are activites and functions planned for the upcoming months (see calender).  I am sure you have all noticed there have been some changes around the post both in the physical and in the operational sense. You may not like them all but we are trying. There will be a lot more changes in the future. One big change is that we hope to enlarge and remodel the kitchen so we can cook up some really good meals. Another change is that the canteen is now open at scheduled times: Wednesday/Friday/Saturday and Sunday 1:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M. and 6-11 P.M. on meeting nights. Also the canteen has been remodeled with a larger bar, tables and a game room. There is a 32? TV, with three (3) more TVs around the bar and game room so come down and watch your favorite game or race. We are going to put out a news letter with a calendar once a quarter. The calendar will have events on it that we know for a fact will be happening. But during the course of the year a lot of changes and additions will happen so you will need to check the calendar at the Post to see what’s going on. For those of you who have computers or may have access to one we do have web a site and an email address. website is: www.vfw2550.org our email is: vfwpost2550@aol.com. Those with computers can check the web site for changes and up coming events and the news letter.

There are now close to 600 Post and Auxiliary members of 2550, so the mailing of the news letter is going to be expensive. If you would like to help keep the cost down, please become a Booster Member. This helps to defray the cost of mailing and the up keep of the web site. The cost to be a booster is $10.00 a year. Also to help with mailing if you have a computer you can read the the News Letter on line. Send me your email address and you will also get updates on Post functions and any news about the Post or it’s members. One last thing MEMBERSHIP, the Quartermaster says we are only 37 members shy of 100%  if you have not yet paid your dues please do so now and make us 100% by the end of February. Either send your dues to the Post or straight to National but please send them in now.  This is your Post please support it, attend meetings and functions. Without you we can not survive.

Fair Winds and Following Seas,

Dutch Grubbs
